Bike lanes in Abbotsford
Abbotsford may well be growing and the importance of cycling recognized. The City of Abbotsford has started to revise the “Official Community Plan”.
A safe east-west cycling corridor is being looked at and all departments in the city are being consulted. Planning /Engineering /parks and trails, etc. This is the first time all heads of these departments have been brought together, with one goal in mind :
make bike lanes, while we still have a chance.
There is some serious money on the table, and I have asked that the 115K currently earmarked for rural road widening be spent in town to help further expand the bike lanes.
Goverment grants are at stake and the FVMBA has given the City a letter of support in this regard.
The FVMBA has a seat on this comittee and I welcome anyone wishing to sit in on any meeting. The committee meets monthly (the third Monday of each month at 10:30-12). Should you like to see what goes on, please feel free to e-mail me or phone and I will accompany you there.
I have sat on this committee for ten years or so and used to represent the Central Fraser Valley Cycle Club(now defunct); since I really now represent the FVMBA, my position has been changed to reflect this.
