Recap of trail day on Vedder Mountain

FVMBA Vedder mountain trail day went off as planned July 9th. A small, but dedicated group worked primarily on Dilemma, mostly putting dirt on takeoffs and trannys. Fixed a few problem holes also. We also deactivated two reroutes on Hidden Pleasures that were causing erosion and were eye sores.

Thanks to all that turned out.

Recap of the Time Killer trail day

Another trail day on Sumas has come and gone. The time Killer exit was again the target of our labours. The focus was primarily drainage improvements, leveling out low mucky spots, and some new woodwork for an easyout on one of the stunts. We also extracted a tent that had been abandoned as garbage up on Knob Gobbler, and removed a stack of garbage near the TK exit that was left behind as grow-op refuse.

Not as large a turnout as the trail day in March, but every little bit helps. Thanks to the volunteers that showed up; thanks to our sponsors for the swag we handed out.

A special thanks for FVRD Parks!!! Four FVRD Parks Staff came out to assist us with our efforts (and to generally see what we were up to). I’m thinking this is the first step towards a mutually beneficial relationship. Thanks Dave and Crew. (And D. and T. for the authorization)

After the work, we shuttled up to the top (possibly the last time for a while as the lock is being changed) and rode KnobGobbler and TK. A great day all around!!

Unfortunately, I left the camera at home, so no photos.

Chilliwack dirt jumps update

If you ride in Chilliwack, you may know that the dirt jumps have been plowed under. However - enough people made the right calls so that now the city is interested in rebuilding a sanctioned dirt jump park.

FVMBA is heavily involved in this endeavour and construction is underway!!

Report on Sumas trail day

sumas-2006-06-harder-01.jpg

The Time Killer Trail day was very successful:

About 30 people showed up, and we managed to greatly improve the exit of Time Killer. What was once a slimy mud-fest, now has more wood, drainage and armouring.

Thanks a bunch to all the volunteers that showed up and pitched in on the project.

Thanks also to:

  • Lifecycles in Abbotsford
  • The Bike Shop in Abbotsford
  • Cranky’s Bike shop in Aldergrove
  • ESC/Huckwagon of Vancouver

Each of these businesses donated items that were awarded as draw prizes to the workers.

Thanks also to:

Martin of ESC/Huckwagon for hauling out a van full of willing labour!! NSMBA for the generous donation of 2 cases of nails They are being put to good use!!

Thanks again to all. The turnout was impressive!!

Cooperation yields a mountain of garbage

Vedder Mountain Trails Association members representing Fraser Valley Mountain Bike Association, Back Country Horseman of BC, Vedder Running Club, Pacific Northwest Motorcycle Associatian, and Chilliwack Outdoor Club cooperated to make the April 9 cleanup day organized by FVMBA reps a complete success.

Individuals from these groups lent more than 700 man-hours of volunteer labour to the effort. This mammoth effort yeilded 2.7 metric tonnes of garbage that did not include metal, tires and other recyclables.

While it is discouraging that we need to continue to bust our humps keeping our playground pristine, the amount of enthusiam applied to this problem was overwhelming. Thank yous must be extended to our local Ministry of Tourism, Sport and Arts recreation representative Brian Radke who generously supplied funding for the dumpsters and landfill fees for a second year. Harvey Adrian from MacDonald's supplied coupons, and Jack's Cycles supplied food, barbequing skills and some swag. There were many, many others that helped in significant ways. You know who you are and your efforts are appreciated.
