Trail Day X 2!! Nov 22 Woodlot & Vedder

Saturday, November 22, 2008 – TRAIL DAY X 2!!!
So many trails, so little time. I know…. Let’s have TWO trail days at the same time!!
Woodlot:
Experience cycling is hosting a trail day with FVMBA at the Woodlot. Meet at the parking lot @ 9:30 am. Bring rakes & shovels if you’ve got them, but leave the bike at home. Bring your own snack – we’re just going to work on trails.
Vedder:
FVMBA is holding a trail day on Vedder on Saturday Nov 22nd.  The goals are to rake the leaves off of all the trails, clear a fallen tree on hidden pleasures and possibly fix the table top on dilemma if we have enough turn out and time.
Where: Vedder mountain lower gate.
When: Saturday Nov 22nd at 10am.
What to bring: rakes and maybe a shovel and some buckets.

Who: anyone who loves to ride these trails.
Why: bike karma is good!

Vedder - Dilemma: Temporary closure

Just a heads up for anyone planning on riding vedder this Saturday(oct.18 ):

The Vedder Running Club will be holding their annual “Around the Lake Race” and will be using Endo and Dilemma as part of the course. They would greatly appreciate it if everyone could avoid riding these 2 trails from approx. 9:10am-9:45am as there will be ALOT of people running up these 2 trails. This will help prevent any potental injury to both riders and runners.

Thanks.

LEDGEVIEW CLEAN UP DAY - Oct 5th, 2008

LEDGEVIEW CLEAN UP DAY
This sunday Oct 5th
9:00 AM

Cutting back the overgrowth, cleaning debris - generally polishing the trails. It’s easy work, but there’s a lot of it; we could use your help.
Meet at the parking lot across from Ledgeview golf course on top.
Bring gloves and snips,we have garbage bags, etc.

Those who must ride, bring a small garbage bags and carry out some of the garbage.
If time permits, and you’re interested, we may go over to big Sumas and continue the cleanup.

Recap:

This Sunday, FVMBA held a quick trail day up on Ledgeview. The goal was to clear away some of the summer’s overgrowth, and rake leaves from the trails.

Thanks to Deiter for showing up and representing NSMBA - he brought another of NSMBA’s cool tools: A gas-powered hedge trimmer. Now, that’s one cool tool!!!
There’s alot of trails we couldn’t get to, but we did manage to clean up Amy fisher, Mixed bag, parts of Paperroute, and other trails on the north side.

After the rest of the leaves drop, we’ll probably head up again and get it ready for the winter riding season.

Thanks to all that showed up; thanks to Trevor for setting up the tent and barbequing, and thanks FVMBA for the hot dogs, chips and BEER!!!!

I think we need to check our budget and see if there’s room for a power hedgetrimmer.

Woodlot trail conditions : September 2008

Most trails are in good shape, with loose over hardpack conditions. There’s a new bridge at the bottom of Goldmine that replaces the sketchy old crossing and some minor work elsewhere.

Note: There have been multiple vehicle break-ins during September. Make sure you lock your vehicles, leaving nothing of value inside.

Woodlot trail conditions: July 2008

Pretty good all-round conditions; a little bit of washboard on certain corners but good stuff overall.

There are still lots of bears around, especially in and around the lower clearcuts (berries!), so keep an eye out and try not to end up in a wrestlin’ match with an angry momma bear.

Unauthorized trail building threatens access on Sumas Mountain

A new trail has appeared on Sumas. The construction of this trail took place without the consent of the woodlot owner or FVMBA.
This trail is in direct conflict of FVMBA’s agreement with the woodlot #45 owner, “FVMBA will not build unauthorized trails without permission.”

The woodlot owner is very upset this has occured, and has asked the Provincial Government to remove any tenure we have on trail within the woodlot, this includes Time Killer and Time Out.

When the woodlot owner discovered this trail, he was told by the builder the trail was approved by FVMBA, that was not true.

Please do not ride this trail, tell the builder he is no hero. We all want more and better trails, this is not the way to get it.

Woodlot trail conditions : June 2008

All of the trails are running pretty well, even though they’re pretty wet.

Lots of bear sightings up there, particularly in / around the clearcuts near Shotgun and Hoots. Keep your eyes peeled and don’t poke an angry bear. Feel free to post new sightings in the comment section below.
