Trail Day X 2!! Nov 22 Woodlot & Vedder

Saturday, November 22, 2008 – TRAIL DAY X 2!!! So many trails, so little time. I know…. Let’s have TWO trail days at the same time!!

Woodlot:
Experience Cycling is hosting a trail day with FVMBA at the Woodlot. Meet at the parking lot @ 9:30 am. Bring rakes & shovels if you’ve got them, but leave the bike at home. Bring your own snack – we’re just going to work on trails.

Vedder:
FVMBA is holding a trail day on Vedder on Saturday Nov 22nd.  The goals are to rake the leaves off of all the trails, clear a fallen tree on hidden pleasures and possibly fix the table top on dilemma if we have enough turn out and time.

Where: Vedder mountain lower gate.
When: Saturday Nov 22nd at 10am.
What to bring: rakes and maybe a shovel and some buckets.

Who: anyone who loves to ride these trails.
Why: bike karma is good!

One additional comment on the Woodlot trail day:

This is a pure maintenance day. No bikes, no prizes, no BBQ. The organizers and and the Experience Cycling riding club will be up there until 1130 or noon.

QUADS are destroying parts of TimeKiller.
Last week again looks like a group of quads went up through the TK .
They were not happy I had thrown tree’s onto the pathway where they ripped up the trail.
Corners, spiked together and a new ladder were ripped out with a winch.
Signage warning of the cliffs , smashed into pieces and left on the trail.
The trail was blocked in places ,by the QUADS.
I know by looking at the damage this,
It was more than one quad, they were drinking cans of Kokanee ,you can see the garbage they left on the trail.
I now understand why in Vedder the motorcycles have NO QUADS ALLOWED signs all over.
The damage is unbeliveable ,with winch’s and a chainsaw they have destroyed a lot of work ,left their garbage .
Look at the lower gate where the QUADS have destroyed the forest around it.
Motorcycle’s over the years have done a certain amount of destruction but compared to these QUADS ,childs play.
If the access road is not blocked, no enforcement ,it’s open season on Sumas against the TimeKiller.
I believe they will be back and the goal is to winch ,their way to Chadsey lake.
Lately looking for the positives is getting tougher, I feel kinda sick in the tummy, went home .

Hey Gary, we should ask people or post signs asking for help by taking license plate #s of trucks parked at the bottom as this could gve us an idea of who they are. Then maybe we can deal with them on some level.

When I rode Red last week I could also see signs of quads on the trails and they are very destructive. They also do not contribute to any trail up keep or building of them for themselves. Big problem, selfish !!?#***~`*#

Which trails on Red? Shutting down access to those lines shouldn’t be difficult.

it was on the bottom section going along past the gun club. if they are going there it is inevitable they will go higher, if not already. going up to clear some tree stuff soon and will look more closely for signs of them as I walk the trails higher up.

Has the district of Mission been notified? I wonder if there is a way to “quadproof” the trails?

Thats pretty bad how inconsiderate some people are, from the hard work people put in to make that trail nice, they should find something else to do instead of destroying stuff.

Rode Lazy Boy to X-celerator yesterday. There is still about 10″ of snow at the summit of McKee Peak and plenty of snow and deadfall on X-celerator. I tried to clear as much debris as I could, but just ran out of time. There are big chunks of ice across the trail as well.

Left X-celerator at the old Boulderdash. I’m loving the new line there, Spawn of Boulderdash (SOB-iash?) Autobahn is in beautiful, rideable condition (and I’m assuming Flintstones is as well) Ran into Carey and he was doing a great job maintaining the trails.

Has anyone been up Big Sumas? Is there a lot of snow still?

Kim & Tom went up there on the weekend with a chainsaw to clear trails, but too much snow for that.

I plan to try and go up Bear and/or Red this Sunday to check out trails conditions. Will have the chainsaw to remove the bigger stuff. will have to see how much snow is still up there though or it might have to wait another week………

Oi Todd, what are the conditions on Red and Bear? Is all the snow gone yet?
