2009 FVMBA Halloween Ride wrap up

The 2009 Halloween Ride was a great success! A great mix of both XC and DH riders showed up (most in costume) for a fantastic day of riding at Vedder Mountain. The fast group of XC riders almost beat the first group of shuttlers to The Den! Great weather, delicious burgers, and hilarious costumes were in store for the day. Thanks to the many new and returning members who purchased a 2010 FVMBA membership! Thanks to the event sponsors: Pinkbike.com, Wentings Cycle and Mountain Shop, Bike Brewery, and Jack’s Cycle. There were some great costumes…but not everyone was able to stick around for the voting and swag give aways. The top three costumes were:

1. Bike Patrol (ala Reno 911)

2. Tooth Fairy

3. Peanut Butter and Jam (great couple costume!)

We had a great time putting on the event…look for lots more fun events like this one in the year to come!

Sweet ride today ,The Doug’s bday ride,Chadsey.
The rain started at the top of Sumas and though the roots were a little slippery,it was all good.
At the end we all were smiling big time.
Fall is here and a truly epic, fun day with friends.
It gets no better ,happy birthday Doug.

Thanks, Gary! Awesome ride, eh? The Chadsey Trail is getting better and better with your trail crew’s efforts. I can’t wait to help out on that trail this winter! Get us out of the mud and over the creek. How about a floating bridge to the island? Ha ha, that would be something!

Is there anyway to post pics on this website? Maybe I’ll post them on NSMB’s Photo Gallery and link that from here.

Anyone up to hitting the Sauces and Peels on Sunday next? Woohoo! Ride on!

Tom — October 26, 2009 @ 7:56 pm

Post them on Pinkbike’s gallery…they support FVMBA!

Awesome Halloween Ride! What a turn-out, too! Thanks, FVMBA, for a great ride! One suggestion for next year, offer veggie burgers!

Steve — November 2, 2009 @ 9:03 am

Thanks everyone for coming out. And thanks to the weather for cooperating so well.

I can’t believe we ran out of burgers AND membership forms.

Joe,
Life Cycles wasn’t approached to be a sponsor of this event.

Harv, along with several Life Cycles team riders purchased FVMBA memberships at the ride, so they are definitely doing their part, and we appreciate it.

Judging from their turnout and support, don’t be surprised to see Life Cycles as a sponsor at future FVMBA events.

I’ve also had email from Cranky’s in Aldergrove, wanting to be involved next time. It’s great to see all the interest from the local bikes shops. We know they can’t always participate, but we appreciate each and every one of them.

Doug — November 3, 2009 @ 8:32 am

I love Cranky’s, they are my LBS! Heath and Ed are the best!

So, in the interest of clarity, the FVMBA Halloween Ride was sponsored by Wentings Cycle, Jack’s Cycle, Pinkbike and the Bike Brewery? Is that correct?

24

Tom — November 3, 2009 @ 7:49 pm

Yes.

Snow on knobgobbler Sunday morning , just after the entrance it was a solid 2″ deep

26

Steve — November 9, 2009 @ 8:28 am

That must have been your tracks I was following. There was 2 ahead of us, ourselves, and we got passed by a group of three yesterday morning. Very mucky below the snow.

My son lost his derailler and hanger at the top of the long steep steep section. We removed his chain and zap-strapped the derailler to his frame. That worked well… until his wheel fell off just before the exit.

I look forward to a freeze up there, so we can get traction again, and not lay waste to the trail.

Rick — November 9, 2009 @ 9:02 am

it was funny but I saw 3 black 4 door Cherokees up there were you one ?

A lot of progress was made on TimeKiller ,with some new grade reversals and redoing some sections in the clearcut. This section is finally showing some of it’s potential as some vegatation starts to grow and roots and tree sections are pulled out off the trailbed.
A couple of trees where taken off the trail as well and a difficult corner is being addressed.
Seen quite a few riders out , and Sumas seemed fairly busy.
Great day as FVMBA continues it’s work , NFear entrance will get done asap.

NOTE—–ABBOTSFORD BMX track goes SuperCross.
Abbotsford BMX track with help from CyclingBC will be adding a HUGE starting hill to a Supercross standard ,and redoing the PRO line . When one looks at the size of the newly paved berms, wow !
Local riders by May 2010 will have another great place to go .
Here’s a facebook link to check it out.

Yup - ours was parked at KG exit, with my son’s shuttle bitch (I mean Girlfriend). We were NOT the one that had the bike strapped to the roof and drifting the corners.

josh — November 23, 2009 @ 8:06 pm

are there any more photos from the halloween ride ??

Big thanks to the Matt man of XCellerator fame.
He has donated two really sweet Macleods to the FVMBA.
2010 membership time– and our AGM as well TBA.
We are looking for new blood , and by that I mean directors on our executive.
It will be six years of the fvmba, and we continue to work for all riders and trails.
Getting membership and renewals– “are you a member ” is our fuel .
All can see our sport is growing with the larger number of riders out there .
Our trails continue to see the love and expand, what we don’t need is a few people doing so much work feeling ,that they are in the minority.
When I travel ,it’s always nice to come home to our trails, tree’s down are quickly taken out and maintainance is always ongoing.
It’s all about the love, get that membership,so I can stop ragging on you my friends..
insert smily face.
