One of the oldest trails around the Clayburn area is the Soft Taco.
Steep, windy and trailsy, with clay and peat all around. Woodpeckers enjoying the dead trees, a young eagle heard more than seen. Giant cedar stumps, moss hanging surreally birds everywhere, very pretty.
A new bridge is being made midpoint which will be much better. All cedar construction wide and soon to be meshed as well. Duck a very steep section will be getting a ladder fitted into the rut. This will really help with the traction. Lots of money is being spent on galvanized spiral spikes, mesh, tools on this bridge as other trails.
Like the Lost Oakley lots of upgrades and maintenance going on.
FVMBA is committed to the trails more and better, your membership dues at work for all of us.
NOV14th Sumas mtn GIS map work has started, (it should be done this week) as we work towards sanctioning our trails .
Here’s a link to pixs of the bridge:

Of all the bike trails on Sumas Mountain, the only one with that is significantly within the park boundaries is KnobGobber. This past Friday, Sept 1st, representatives from FVMBA and FVRD Parks dept. hiked KnobGobbler together. During the hike, the trail was examined with a view toward addressing any environmental or liability issues. As it turns out, there is very little on the trail that requires any modification. FVRD Parks is committed to developing a working relationship with FVMBA and KnobGobbler looks like it may become the first legitimate, sanctioned MTB trail in the central Fraser Valley.
It won’t happen overnight, but significant steps are being taken.
Discussions are also underway with MoTSA regarding the other trails on Sumas. Things look positive there as well

Another trail day on Sumas has come and gone. The time Killer exit was again the target of our labours. The focus was primarily drainage improvements, leveling out low mucky spots, and some new woodwork for an easyout on one of the stunts. We also extracted a tent that had been abandoned as garbage up on Knob Gobbler, and removed a stack of garbage near the TK exit that was left behind as grow-op refuse.
Not as large a turnout as the trail day in March, but every little bit helps. Thanks to the volunteers that showed up; thanks to our sponsors for the swag we handed out.
A special thanks for FVRD Parks!!! Four FVRD Parks Staff came out to assist us with our efforts (and to generally see what we were up to). I’m thinking this is the first step towards a mutually beneficial relationship. Thanks Dave and Crew. (And D. and T. for the authorization)
After the work, we shuttled up to the top (possibly the last time for a while as the lock is being changed) and rode KnobGobbler and TK. A great day all around!!
Unfortunately, I left the camera at home, so no photos.

The Time Killer Trail day was very successful:
About 30 people showed up, and we managed to greatly improve the exit of Time Killer. What was once a slimy mud-fest, now has more wood, drainage and armouring.
Thanks a bunch to all the volunteers that showed up and pitched in on the project.
Thanks also to:
- Lifecycles in Abbotsford
- The Bike Shop in Abbotsford
- Cranky’s Bike shop in Aldergrove
- ESC/Huckwagon of Vancouver
Each of these businesses donated items that were awarded as draw prizes to the workers.
Thanks also to:
Martin of ESC/Huckwagon for hauling out a van full of willing labour!! NSMBA for the generous donation of 2 cases of nails They are being put to good use!!
Thanks again to all. The turnout was impressive!!
