Trees down on Eric Dunning trail

There’s some decent cross country riding in Golden Ears Provincial Park, but the riding trails haven’t seen any work for a long time (so much for those parking fee revenues propping up any area other than the campgrounds…).

Eric Dunning Trail

There are a fallen trees about halfway down the trail. They’re on a semi-blind corner, so please be aware if you’re riding through there. Also, the main access road, leading up from Mike Lake has been deactivated for safety reasons (unstable slope), so your only access is a grunt up the trail.

The rest of the trail has seen better days and tonnes of water have really done a number on extended parts of the line.

Woodlot trail day, 10 June

The day that most of you thought would never come is around the corner. The first VMBA-backed trail day at the Woodlot is scheduled to take place on Sunday, 10 June 2007.

+ Trail: Giant Killer. The trail is beat and it needs lots of work.

+ No bikes. Please leave your bikes at home — there’ll be plenty of
opportunities to hit stuff another day.

+ Meet at the parking area at the north end of 287th (where you
normally park)at 9:15 for a 9:30am depart time. We expect things to
kick off at 10am at the bottom of the trail and continue until later.

+ Although we’ll have shovels, rakes, and other equipment up there, we’d like people to bring whatever they can to make sure we don’t run out of gear.

+ Refreshments // food will be provided

+ Be prepared to haul rocks and soil

Woodlot CLOSED on 11 February and 14 February

I just received this message from the manager of the Woodlot:

This notice is to inform you that access to the woodlot from the following points will be closed during the afternoon of Friday February 11th or during the day of Monday February 14th.

  • Woodlot entrance gate
  • 287th access trail
  • Nygaard trail
  • Northern Mainline access and Bike trails

The purpose of the closure times is to allow for blasting to take place for the establishment of a small rock quarry. The quarry will supply road construction and surfacing material. The site is located as noted in the map.

Rock drilling will occur between February 08 to 11, 2005. Blasting is expected to take place Monday, February 14th.

The work will be carried out under the supervision of our road contractor.

For your safety please respect the signage and area closures during the times noted above.
