The FVMBA has always supported the Vedder trails with its own resources. The past few days saw Collin and Gary doing some much needed rebuilding, buffing and repairing of some dirt and wood structures on the North side of the mountain.
An old favorite was initially going to just be patched but ended up in a complete rebuild.
This section is amazing when you can make the gap, strong cornering ability is required here and the ones that can do it: love it. The patched berm should help with the effort.
The uphill split skinny had seen better days on Mongolloyd. Many riders had endo’d into the face and this section was seriously lacking. Watch for the bridge beyond to be replaced soon as well.
And now fixed.
Happy Holidays to the Vedder Trails!
The recent weather and wind has resulted in a number of trees down on the trails, and the destruction of some sections of trail. There are also a number of projects that remain unfinished, and several other projects that are yet to be started.
A trail day will be held Sunday, Dec 18th to hopefully address these issues. This is a great opportunity to give back to the trails, meet other trail enthusiasts, and help to improve your local trail network for yourself and others to enjoy. We hope to see you there, and if not have a Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year.
When: Sunday, December 18th @ 9:30 am
Where: Meeting in the mountain bike parking lot on parmenter road
What to Bring: Shovels, rakes, buckets, picks, pulaski’s, and various other trail tools.
Bring some water and something to snack on.
Note: It will likely be quite cold, so please dress warm. I recommend wearing layers, a toque, warm boots and a pair of gloves.
The results are in for the First two FVMBA 4X races. The race on Tuesday was the last event for 2011, but join for the final four races on Jan. 24, 31, Feb. 7 & 14. Refer to our earlier post for details on your chance to escape the winter rain and race indoors.

2011 has been huge for the Fraser Valley Mountain Bikers Association! Thanks to a membership that has more than tripled in the last year, we have amplified our voice as an advocate for biking in the Fraser Valley. This increase has also benefited our local builders, as we now have more resources to provide them with the tools and supplies they need.

The weatherman didn’t lie this time and the rain did come. It came down like we all know it can here in the South West as more than 50mm of rain fell in the morning hours before the ride started.
However a Halloween ride was promised and with the gracious support of Cranky’s Bike Shop in Aldergrove, BC, that is exactly what was delivered.

Summer is all but gone and for most of us the rides are getting a little more infrequent, wet and in need of illumination. As we look back on the days of summer we have seen some great success as an organization. Here are some of the highlights of our year:
- 5 Toonie Races in the spring and fall.
- New trails on Sumas and Bear.
- A new forum on fvmba.com. The forum is the place for up to date trail information in the Valley.
- Supported the Bear Mt DH Challenge.
- Tripled our membership from last year.
- Organized group rides & trail days.
- Developed strategic partnerships with local governments and other trail users.
- Many, many trail upgrades and maintenance.
- Funded and provided trail building supplies for local builders.
As we transition into winter, we start planning for next year. Join us on November 20, 2011 for our AGM as we celebrate our success and plan for the future.
Is there anything you would like to see happen next year? If you ride Vedder, Sumas, Red, Bear or the Woodlot, this meeting will give you the opportunity to let us know what is on your mind. There are plenty of opportunities to volunteer within the organization. We are always looking for reps in different communities and there are a number of other positions available on the executive team.
If you would like to get more involved, this is best way to get started. This is also a great way to get to know other riders in the area. Join out for some food, prizes and an opportunity to speak your mind.
