The Map of the September 2011 Closure.

Courtesy of Dean, August 3, 2011:

Things are starting to progress at The Woodlot in regards to the roads and the logging.

A map is attached that shows the key items of the logging:

  • Cutblock outlined in gold
  • Road sections being upgraded outlined in pink
  • Sections of trail that will be closed outlined in yellow

Not everything is taking place at the same time so please don’t be worried that all the trails will be closed at once. A schedule of logging is currently being worked on and once it is available it will be communicated so that riders and other users of the area know when certain areas can be accessed.

Trail days will be organized by the Fraser Valley Mountain Bike Association (www.fvmba.com) to reopen the affected trails when it is safe to do so. The FVMBA will be asking riders and trail users for assistance so please keep your eyes and ears open. There will be announcements on NSMB.com, Pinkbike.com and FVMBA.com.

Also attached is a copy of the sign that will be posted at various locations at the Woodlot informing users of the area that there is logging taking place.

New information will be posted when it is available.

ATTENTION: Riders at THE WOODLOT

The main road used to climb at The Woodlot (BCIT Woodlot 0007) is going to be reactivated and improved. The map below shows the sections and the approximate dates that the road improvements will take place. Note that these dates are estimates and are dependent on the weather. I will keep people posted of any changes that I am made aware of.

Please be aware of the machinery that will be used for the roadwork and if possible make an effort to avoid the areas under construction. The work will start just past the start of Quick Hit and continue up the hill approximately to the road that leads to Tsuga.

The reason for this road reactivation and upgrading is so that the operators of BCIT Woodlot 0007 can have vehicle and equipment access to the upper part of the woodlot. They are planning harvesting activities in the upper woodlot. The harvesting will not start until spring 2011, at the earliest. The exact areas to be harvested have not yet been decided but when I have that information I will share it with everyone.
