Hey, there’s a tree down on the trail!
January 18, 2023

2022 was another great year for the trails! This summer was the third year in a row having a dedicated trail crew out on the trails. Crew looks after everything from clearing drains & brushing back brambles to refreshing berms & rebuilding bridges. With over 1200 km of trails to care for, from the Woodlot in Maple Ridge to the Dragon’s Back (Kw’okw’echíwel Stl’áleqem) area in Hope, the FVMBA Trail Crew has been instrumental to increasing our capacity to keep the trails safe & fun. Going into 2023, we’re excited to announce that for the first time, the FVMBA will have a year-round trail crew. All of this work is supported by your membership dollars, as well as funding from grants, sponsorship, and donations. Help us continue to keep the trails in great shape by joining the FVMBA.

2022 by the numbers…

Here’s a look back at some of the highlights with Trail Crew in 2022…

Dilemma Overpass

Crew tackled one of their biggest projects yet, building an overpass at the junction of Sunnyside Up and Dilemma at Vedder. The new feature separates uphill and downhill traffic, allowing riders to roll into Dilemma from the road.

Storm Repair

The storms in November 2021 caused significant damage to a number of trails, including washing away bridges, washing away sections of trail, and accelerated erosion in many locations. Crew helped replace bridges, repaired eroded trail sections, and added more drainage to help reduce risk of damage in future storms.

Bridge Replacements

It was the summer of building bridges, 57 in total! Good thing the crew likes the smell of cedar. Can you name the trail each of these bridges is on?
