FVMBA is Hiring a Seasonal Trail Crew – Senior Trail Crew (1 position)

Wages: Hourly $25.00 per hour

Fraser Valley Mountain Bikers Association

The Fraser Valley Mountain Bikers Association (FVMBA) is a registered non-profit, volunteer-run organization that advocates for and maintains multiple recreational trail networks within the Fraser Valley in partnership with different land managers, including Recreation Sites and Trails of the Province of British Columbia. The mission of the organization is to build a culture of inclusive mountain bike communities and sustainable trail networks. We actively maintain over 600 km of multi-use trails to provide a safe, enjoyable experience for trail users, including mountain bikers, hikers, trail runners, and others.

Position Overview

The FVMBA Senior Trail Crew Lead will work under the direction of the FVMBA Operations Manager to assist in the supervision of the FVMBA summer trail crew and assist in the repair and maintenance of authorized multi-use trails within the Fraser Valley for which the FVMBA has stewardship responsibilities. All work will follow best management practices for long-term sustainable trail solutions that improve the safety of the trail network, protect the environment, and provide an enjoyable trail experience for all trail users in order to benefit the health of the community.

Eligibility

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and
  • be legally entitled to work according to regulations in the Province of British Columbia.

Note: International students are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents.

Job Responsibilities

This job requires strenuous physical demands on a daily basis, including hiking, lifting, digging, and striking.

Specific tasks include:

  • work with the FVMBA Operations Manager to oversee and direct the FVMBA Summer Trail Crew
  • implement appropriate trail solutions to repair and maintain multi-use trails following best management practices and required trail standards
  • trail repair, maintenance, and construction of authorized trails managed by the FVMBA
  • write work reports that describe and explain trail work completed
  • additional responsibilities under the direction of the FVMBA Operations Manager

Skills, Knowledge, Experience

  • Ability to work collaboratively and to receive and follow direction
  • Self-directed, ability to work independently
  • Trail building experience required
  • Knowledge of trail maintenance and construction standards and best practices
  • First aid certificate recommended
