Pay: $20.00 – $25/hour depending on experience

FVMBA Trail Crew Positions Available

The FVMBA Summer Trail Crew will work under the supervision of the FVMBA Operations Manager to revitalize and maintain recreational trail networks in the Fraser Valley where the FVMBA holds authorized trail maintenance agreements including but not limited to: Woodloot 0007, Maple Ridge; Red and Bear Mountain, Mission; Sumas Mountain, Abbotsford; and Vedder Mountain, Chilliwack. All work will follow best management practices for long-term sustainable trail solutions that improve the safety of the trail network, protect the environment, and provide an enjoyable trail experience for all trail users in order to benefit the health of the community.

We are hiring for four potential positions: two positions primarily based in Mission and Abbotsford; two positions primarily based in Chilliwack. All positions are subject to funding availability.

 

Eligibility
In order to meet the terms and conditions of funding granted through the Canada Summer Jobs program, applicants must meet the following criteria:
  • be between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;
  • be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and
  • be legally entitled to work according to the regulations of the Province of British Columbia
Note: International students are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents.

 

Responsibilities

This job requires strenuous physical demands on a daily basis, including hiking, lifting, digging, and striking.

Specific tasks include:

  • Trail repair and maintenance following required trail standards set by land managers
  • Repair or replacement of wood trail features such as bridges
  • Install and replace trail signs
  • Trimming plant overgrowth along trail corridors
  • Writing work reports for completed trail work
  • Additional trail repair, maintenance, and construction activities under the direction of the FVMBA Operations Manager or other FVMBA Trail Builders.

 

Skills, Knowledge, Experience

  • Personal vehicle required to travel to trail networks / trail access points
  • Ability to work outdoors in variety of weather conditions
  • No previous building experience required
  • Ability to work collaboratively and to receive and follow direction
  • Passionate about trails & outdoor recreation
  • First aid certificate recommended

The FVMBA is a registered non-profit, volunteer-run organization that advocates for and maintains multiple recreational trail networks within the Fraser Valley in partnership with different land managers and stakeholders. The mission of the organization is to build a culture of inclusive mountain bike communities and sustainable trail networks. We actively maintain over 600 km of multi-use trails to provide a safe, enjoyable experience for trail users, including mountain bikers, hikers, trail runners, and others.

    The trail crew job posting states that the work will be from May to August. The age requirement is 15-30, would someone who is still currently in high school be able to get hired to work after the current term ends (ends June 29th)

      Thanks for your question. The contract starts in May, and our crew works 8 AM – 4 PM weekdays so unfortunately youth still in school during this time would not be able to take the position. The age eligibility is set by the grant funding the position.
