Despite the weather ups and downs, the FVMBA trail crew and many volunteer builders have been working hard on the trails.

Winter winds have brought down a number of trees in all of the trail networks. FVMBA volunteers have been on top of clearing the trails after each storm; a big shout out to everyone getting out with handsaw or chainsaw and removing the deadfall so quickly!

With the ground sometimes frozen, sometimes covered in snow, January and February can be a challenging time to get lots of dirt work done. And the usual rain this time of year also makes fresh dirt work more sensitive to damage. Ongoing work on Blood Donor at the Woodlot and Zest at Vedder have both trails closed – this allows any fresh dirt to settle and pack nicely, and keeps the hardworking volunteers happy when they don’t have to redo work. Reminder too that Arduum & Mastadon at Red at closed during the construction of the BC Hydro tower and the Bearea 51 is closed for logging.

The FVMBA Trail Crew has been busy at Woodlot, rebuilding much of the woodlot on Mandatory Caution. Here’s a sneak preview of a few of the features… stay tuned for a full update soon! This work is funded by a grant from the Fox Trail Trust.

Over at Heritage mountain, crew has started brushing back the brambles and continued with bridge replacements. You’ll also find new signage throughout the network! Many thanks to Rocky for coordinating the project & to all of the volunteers who helped install all of the signage. The new signage is funded through Community Futures.

With Spring just around the corner, trail days are coming up (check the calendar for details) and we’re looking forward to having you join us!
